Mr. Emmanuel Baidoo, Senior Sustainability Manager of AngloGold Ashanti, Obuasi Mine has told educational circuit supervisors in Obuasi that their role is critical in achieving quality and effective teaching and learning in the town. He said this during the close-out session on school improvement supervisors training workshop in Obuasi today.
AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine in 2019 launched a three-year Social Management Plan which among other areas focuses prominently on education with the objective of contributing to increasing pass rate in the Basic Education Certificate Examination in Obuasi from 81 to 90% by the year 2021. Since the launch of the plan, various workshops have been organised to equip supervisors and teachers in order to achieve this vision. The latest workshop is the last of three trainings for circuit supervisors in Obuasi within the 3 years plan.
“The aim of the training is to improve school supervision …which is key to improving quality and effective teaching and learning”, Emmanuel Baidoo told the officers.
“If we provide furniture and infrastructure and supervision is weak, we are not going to get quality delivery and it will translate into poor performance” he added.
Regina Teni Mummuni, the Obuasi Municipal Director of Education expressed their appreciaition to the Mine for their support in improving education in the municipality.
AngloGold Ashanti Ghana (AGAG) has a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Ghana Education Service (GES) with the prime goal to increase the pass rate of basic schools from 80.6%to 90 % by the end of 2021.
This agreement called for the need to improve school supervision to improve delivery and performance of pupil and Teachers to attain the overall Goal of AGAG’s Educational Improvement Program.
The training covers; Data analysis for Management, Contemporary Supervision and Teacher Support Model, Grant proposal writing and reporting.
The training will seeks to help participants to derive data from Community schools, analysis and make informed decision, reinforce existing Supervisory skills and competencies of field officers of GES, as well as provide GES Field officers with confidence to perform their tasks and Generate Reports.
32 participants from both Educational Directorates of Obuasi Municipal and Obuasi East District Assembly will benefit from the training.
The participants comprise School Improvement Supervisory Officers (SISO)-formerly Circuit Supervisors and other Field Officers of the Ghana Education Service.
